Weekly Rants and Raves (RAWR) #477

Anne: I hope everyone had a great New Year! On the other hand, I had an excellent New Year’s Eve.

And I ended up being sick for the next two days. I still can’t tell if I caught something or if it’s my usual sinus infection from poor drainage and an allergy to my general environment. At least everything is back to normal…to a certain point.

Is it my imagination or did the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 just drop a bunch of new drama at once?

Bloom

Was the ending great? It was one of the most complete drama endings in recent years. And how happy I am that our idiot Ji Yong turned out to be a good guy after all. A real hole for all the plotting he’s done, but I guess it goes well with his character building. He eventually continued to enter the monastery.

Although I feel a little sad that not everyone made it to the end, the characters followed their path based on their setup. Although it is also sad that some of these people, who could have changed, learned, grown and changed their fate, did not, I suppose I should not expect miracles since most people follow their innate personality. (Dou Ming, Dou Zhao’s younger sister probably died in the worst way for girls in this drama. And even in the end, she still believed in her husband.) At least An Su withdrew from her plans husband and I do not choose to follow him on the path.

In the end, Song Mo got the antidote to his poison and our lovely couple was finally able to go on a trip.

Guardians of Dafeng

It came out a few days before the end of 2024, and I don’t know what I expected, but it started like that. Joy of livingbut instead of a book, they turned to some kind of murder mystery clue. This paved the way for our ML to “transfer” to Xu Qi An, who is locked up due to a crime committed by his uncle for losing a bunch of government money. He is informed of the crime by his cousin, Xu Xin Nian, who is a student at YunLu Academy. Everyone thought that the money was the work of some kind of demon, but after reviewing the crime report, Xu Qi An discovered that the money had been missing for a long time before it even started to be transported and that it had been replaced by aluminum. Now…all the science makes sense, but I can’t believe he took the recipe from a science book. And pure aluminum must be stored in oil to prevent it from reacting with water in the air. And THIS amount of aluminum spilled into the water would have killed everyone on the transport team.

But the show is pretty funny, there are a lot of silly and weird moments that make this show really interesting to watch. For example, when all three of them showed up at the brothel to question the main act, even though all three of them had a big “discussion” about how someone as high up as them could one day enter such an establishment. It was quite comical when they all got together.

And when he finally entered the Guardians, the only way to convince Li YuChun to accept him was for the Golden League’s Yang Yan to threaten to tell his cousin that her husband was abusing the “little cousin”.

Xu Qi An was recommended by Princess (Lin An), who likes to go out once a month to the Astronomical Bureau, which seems to be staffed by a group of alchemists/chemists.

I really enjoy this, partly because of the silly and funny moments that are inserted throughout that you wouldn’t expect, and also because of the resolution of the crime. I like it too.

That’s all for now. Let’s see how this year goes. And I hope everyone has a great start to the year!
