Shinichi Tsutsumi is cast in the TBS drama series “Gift.” The original storyline will revolve around a genius astrophysicist (Shinichi Tsutsumi), who is interested in helping a wheelchair rugby team win matches. The team hasn’t won in 3 years and the players are constantly bickering among themselves. Naoki Kato (If My Wife Becomes a Primary School Student) will co-direct the drama series.

“Gift” will first air in April 2026 in Japan (takes over TBS’s Sunday 9 p.m. time slot after “Reboot”).

Plot synopsis by AsianWiki: Fumito Gotetsu (Shinichi Tsutsumi) is an astrophysicist with a brilliant mind and vast knowledge. While working as an associate professor at a university, he studied the black hole. He has isolated himself from others and lives only to find interesting, but difficult to solve, problems. One day, he visits the training of a wheelchair rugby team, coached by his cousin Masami Hino. The wheelchair rugby team hasn’t won in 3 years and the players continue to argue. The team is a perennial underdog, who never seems to win, but Fumito Gotetsu is excited about the team and thinks the team poses an interesting challenge to solve. Even though he has no idea about the rules of rugby, he says he will help the team become the No. 1 team. He approaches players sincerely and gets to know their personal lives. This allows him to face his own problem.
