Trailer and poster added for the movie “The Boy and the Dog” starring Fumiya Takahashi and Nanase Nishino. The film is based on the short story collection “Shonen to Inu” by Seishu Hase and directed by Takahisa Zeze (“The 8 Year Engagement”). The teaser poster’s caption reads “The dog traveled 3,000 km from Tohoku to Kyushu, over a period of 5 years, just to meet the boy.”

“The Boy and the Dog” is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2025 in Japan.

Plot synopsis by AsianWiki: 6 months after the earthquake in the city of Sendai, Kazumasa Nakagaki (Fumiya Takahashi) is a young man who lost his job. He meets a dog, with the name Tamon on his ID tag, who lost his owner in the earthquake. Kazumasa Nakagaki decides to take Tamon in and the dog becomes attached to him and his family, but Tamon still seems preoccupied with something heading south. One day, when Kazumasa Nakagaki is involved in a dangerous incident, Tamon disappears. Later, in Shiga, Tamon is with Miwa Sugai (Nanase Nishino) who has a sad secret. Kazumasa Nakagaki reunites with Tamon and they begin a new life together. Nonetheless, Tamon heads south, because Tamon has a promise he wants to keep to a boy.
