Anne: Hello theater lovers! Well… the year of the dragon turns out, once again, to bring difficult situations to other people born in the year of the dragon. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but we’re only approaching April and we’re already having issues where I’m bleeding money into the Universe. On top of that, I feel like my intelligence goes the other way. I basically watched myself do the stupid thing while I was doing it, and I knew it was stupid, but I did it anyway. As soon as I pressed “ok” to change the password, the little voice in my head said… oh… you shouldn’t have done that…
Yes, I locked myself out of my work laptop for the entire weekend.
Aside from dealing with my brain spacing in my “old age,” let’s move on to the shows I’ve been watching in recent weeks.
In bloom
I’m completely caught up on episode 16 and the love triangle, which is almost a square, is making everyone nervous. The last “case” with Gu Shan was pretty good. The series strived to demonstrate that bad people can be kind to those they love and that good people can do very bad things. Truth be told, even though it’s still some sort of crime drama with Yang Cai Wei (not with Shangguan Zi’s face) trying to uncover the person behind his family’s tragedy and “murder”, I only watch it for the romance.
This series goes against the grain a bit by preventing the ML (Pan Yue) from saying that the Shangguan Zhi next to him is the person he has been in love with all his life. In a sense, if this happened in real life, assuming facial change could actually happen, let alone in an age without modern medicine, most people would probably have questions about what they are experiencing Currently. Especially since he only found her a few months ago, after 10 years, and the last time he interacted with her was when they were kids. Pan Yue feels so guilty for caring for Shangguan Zhi that he questions the depth of his feelings for Cai Wei, whose body he still keeps “intact” in a sort of ice cave. He’s convinced himself that he only sees Cai Wei in Shangguan Zhi because she’s deliberately trying to imitate him in order to get “closer” to him, and given what the real Shangguan Zhi did, yes, we can believe it.
On the other hand, Cai Wei, who now lives the life of Shangguan Zhi, has convinced herself that since she made the choice to use her new identity to pursue her goals, she must abandon Cai’s identity Wei. She tries, at least, to break Pan Yue’s view of the original Shangguan Zhi, making sure he understands that she only works with him to solve cases. But the actress is super slim. And being able to see that on screen means she’s really thin. This is probably the major problem that really bothers me every time I see her on screen.
And our poor second ML, who knows our FL’s true identity and sees the reality in front of him, and still does his best to achieve his goal. Using his status as a sect leader of one of the 4 powers (I forgot how to translate his sect, Silver Rain Tower… or something like that), he made his intentions to marry Shangguan Zhi well known, perfectly aware that Pan Yue doesn’t know what he knows. This man has no shame in taking advantage of whatever advantages he can get. I hope our second ML will see the “other” woman who has “eyes” for him. At least that’s what I see at the moment.
It’s the only show I’m chasing in real time. It’s quite funny.
Everything else, I looked… a little…
The rest of this article will go over everything I watched last week. For the most part, I’ve only gotten through a few episodes, and I haven’t watched enough to have an opinion, and one that I just want to get angry at.
Let’s start with this one… Remember when I said a few weeks ago that I quit Fight for youbecause it became stupid?! Well… I should have followed my intuition and never done it again. But I was SO close and I really wanted to find out what happened. So…I stopped when Yi Zhi found out that it was his father who killed A Mai’s family…I thought the worst it could be was him being an idiot. .. oh no… I was SO unimaginative. from the shitstorm that has happened over the last 10 episodes. I read online that the original novel never had a love story between A Mai and Yi Zhi, and that the drama inserts this plot as Yi Zhi’s character would develop into what it became meaningless! Forget the fact that the reason why the old emperor killed A Mai’s family ended up being the exact same logic that Yi Zhi used to eliminate the army A Mai built. Yes, I understand that leaders have to make bad choices, but the fact that he REALLY still believed that his love for her could move him in ANY WAY after sending his battalion to die, after marrying someone else to stabilize the courtship, after setting up the harem, AND after forcing her into the same harem for a while, I ended ANY liking I had for her character. I understand that she is loyal to her county and would never have considered marrying the enemy… but I really wish she would. Sigh… At least she finally got what she wanted. Freedom.
Unknownis the BL drama I always follow, and episode 6 ended with the implosion when Zhi Yuan finally confessed his love for the brother who brought him into his family and took care of him during major part of his life. San Pang tried to warn him that it would end in disaster, and it ended with Wei Qian sending Zhi Yuan out of the country. BTW, I must be REALLY bad with money because I can’t understand how Wei Qian is able to save enough money to send Zhi Yuan to school abroad for a number of years. years. Well…I’m very bad with my money as mentioned above in the introduction.
Begin The Legend of ShenLi, and I’m not very far yet. The whole chicken scene reminds me of 3310 and the little “snake” in the cabin in the forest. The book this is based on was written by the same author who wrote Zhao Yao (which I absolutely loved!), The 7 Unfortunate Lives (the book was better than the drama, which I still haven’t finished ), so I’ll definitely continue… once I get over this whole chicken thing…
Burning flames…I didn’t get past the first episode. So strange…maybe I’m tired of my favorite genre???? Ah the horror!
Yong a dream…didn’t make it past the first episode either. But now that I’ve heard that Xu Zheng Xi is retiring… I’ll have to continue… just to see his handsome face in a suit.
The Mystery of Judge Dee is on Netflix and I liked the drama. The ending kind of failed, but overall it was a good watch for the crime/mystery angle.
Guess who I am…I’m still trying to figure out what this drama is about. If anyone has gone far enough…let me know. It’s his novel, right? This thing is a little crazy. And we should all be honest with ourselves…we all want his superpower.
And that’s it for this week. I hope everyone has a peaceful and accident-free week!
