Anne: Hello Drama Lovers, I haven’t written for a few weeks. And all this is due to work and madness that surrounds my life. Has anyone participated in a competition with your colleagues at work for a position? It wouldn’t be that bad if one of the competitors is someone I can’t stand. I make emergency plans while determining how to make my request and I stand out among the others. Sigh … I really can’t wait for this process when it starts.
Now enough of my problems. In the middle of the whirlwind which is my life, I managed to catch a new drama that I have been waiting for since last year, when I saw that it was “to come” in the list.
The Romance of the Demon Hunter
So … we all know why I clicked on this program … The ML is played by Allen Ren! He has all the elements of my kind. Fantasy with crime resolution.
The story focuses on Ban Xia, the daughter of a fairly rich family who was “sent back” to be cured because of her “hallucinations”. In reality, it has the capacity to see the demons that hide among the human population. It carries a kind of “perfume” which helps to prevent it from seeing these demons in their natural forms.
Towards the day she returns home, Xuan Ye, a demon hunter eats a lot of noodle bowls in a food stand. (BTW, every time I see people who eat noodle bowls, I really want it too.) He’s trying to catch a demon who steals the voice of people. Following its doors is an investigator of his original hometown, who thinks he is the murder that has destroyed his family and their servants. He has a side kick, a rabbit demon, named Chi Xue, who sometimes causes more problems than anything else, despite thinking he helps.
During the marriage of Ban Xia’s brother, she sees a strange shadow of her new sister-in-law, a shadow that showed her wings. His unusual reaction, showing an obvious fear and avoiding looking at the bride, drew the attention of Xuan Ye, who was perched on the roof, looking at the whole procession. On the wedding evening, Ban Xia trying to confirm or deny what she saw earlier in the morning, slipped into her brother’s courtyard. (In truth, I don’t even know why. She is such a frightening little girl, that even if she sees her sister-in-law transforming herself, I’m not sure what she would do.) While she keeps an eye on the wedding room, the same goes for Xuan Ye, who then pulled an arrow in the wedding room.
The next day, Xuan Ye sneaks into Ban Xia’s room in a badly informed attempt to bring his brother to meet him so that he can exhibit the true nature of his new wife. And we know how well it will be. A strange man who has just drawn an arrow on your sister-in-law last night, appearing in your room, speaking of demons and others. Of course, she lacked, shouting that the assassin last night was in her room.
And that’s how history has started.
I was not a big fan of the character of Ban Xia. His shy really rubs me in the wrong direction. But I gave his character a bit of soft because that is how the character is configured. I am happy to see that she cultivated a spine a few episodes later and followed Xuan Ye to her hometown and rented a house opposite. To their two means, they are doubted by all around them, but not from each other. There is probably also a story that connects the ML and the FL, and how it is its reason to be able to see the demons despite their disguises.
The crime resolution part is, so far, a little lack of chandelier, but it deals with the supernatural, so it’s a bit interesting. So far, I appreciate the show. The character of Ban Xia also improves, so I’m not so bored with her all the time. Of course, Xuan Ye is a pleasure to watch. Cross my fingers that it becomes more interesting over the days.
A moment but forever
I know that it is not exactly super new, but I started to watch this last week. All the episodes are published so that I can expire this while I work on my little block houses. Liu Xue Yi was the ML in one of my favorite dramas in 2024, Flowering. And he always looks really good in costume.
It is a fantasy with a little torsion. The torsion does not concern the intrigue. It starts with a fairly common plot with the celestial kingdom in search of something that fell into the deadly kingdom. The person who was fortunate to have acquired this celestial weapon was a deadly young named Yuan Zhong. Because of his contribution to the last battle between mortals and demons, he grants the title as a high priest of Yuhu, a deadly culture clan which is apparently so powerful that other “regular” clans send tributes to women to serve servants in the hope of … What? In a way, being accepted in a way that they can learn the ways of culture? (It was one of the things I didn’t understand. Is there no selection to be able to join? And if there is none, how do other cultivators go in this clan? Of course, I am only in episode 3, so maybe it will be explained later.)
In order to recover the left hand of God, which is also a real weapon that has been made and not the real “hand”, the goddess Wu Shuang claims to be one of the female tributes. And she arrives in a horse -drawn carriage, with a strong steam punk atmosphere. Wu Shuang is the manufacturer of the “hand”. She knows that she will have to kill Yuan Zhong in order to recover the “hand”, and she is determined to finish the mission because she heard the many bad actions committed by Yuan Zhong.
It is not long in realizing that Yuan Zhong, despite his title in the clan, is not really treated as planned. In fact, he is more a prisoner in the clan, than his high priest, and he has a golden lock around his neck which resembles the “constraints” on the wrists of female tributes. As she is taken by Yuan Zhong as her personal servant, she realizes that he lives a very lonely life, without anyone around him.
While Wu Shuang is starting to question the cultivators, trying to understand the many things that do not connect in the clan, she realizes that the older elders put him in a lock in order to prevent him from taking revenge one day. Yuan Zhong does not realize that the clan, in order to find someone who can use the “hand”, had caused the death of many children. When the parents of the children demanded them, the alumni of the clan assassinate all their parents, including that of Yuan Zhong.
I really like the discovery of all the secret of the clan, and how things are not always what they seem. I liked the calls of “phone” that she makes for the celestial gods, because her mission is important to “wake up” Taihe. I really like the steam punk mixture in the fantastic world. I like the mixture of crafts / manufacturing real tools in the magical field.
I just started, so I’m trying to see where it’s going.
And it’s for this week.
BTW, has someone take a look Cruscology 101? If someone has seen this, let me know. I took a quick look. Is his first boyfriend really hideous? Yes, I understand that he cannot resist Lee Chae Min or Cho Jun Young, but he seems to be a little too ugly. Anyway … seems to be a romantic comedy, so let’s see.
