Weekly Rants and Raves (RAWR) #468

Anne: Happy Tuesday everyone! So…quick update on the hurricane that passed through Texas. To be honest, it was a very small one and I was lucky. Never lost power and trees didn’t fall on the roof. Unlike the poor people two streets from us, they lost power for more than 6 days. Even though it didn’t get that hot immediately after all that rain and wind, after 5 days it was unlivable without air conditioning.

Anyway… I haven’t posted in a while for various reasons, including work being just a constant minor annoyance on top of my short attention span. Besides binge-watching short drama series on YouTube, I also watched a lot of variety/talk shows. And it’s the latter that’s been keeping me entertained a lot lately.

A lot of these shows I watch are about relationships and married life. Granted, couples are in the entertainment business, so…I tend to take what they say as more entertainment and it may not be the whole truth. One of the things that made me misty-eyed was the conversation about kids sleeping in their parents’ beds when they’re little. This is one of the things my husband absolutely refused to allow, and he told me this before the little one was even a reality. Since I didn’t really have an opinion one way or the other on the matter, I agreed. From the start, the little one slept in his own bed. So…I’ve never had to see a little kid trying to sneak past their parents. It’s no surprise that even on these talk shows, one of the most common complaints about a child sleeping with their parents is the interruption of adult events. In my innocent little brain…I thought this was the kid who stopped the event from even starting, but who knew I didn’t even come close to understanding. These parents were interrupted in the truest sense because while they were having sex, they noticed that their previously sleeping toddler was awake and watching them. Ok, yes, the parents were under the covers, and they had a “separation” from the sleeping child…but I can’t imagine having sex in the same bed that my child is sleeping in. It would be so embarrassing that I don’t think I could concentrate. Not to mention my husband never sleeps with clothes on, so…everything would be awkward.

The most horrible story I heard on these shows was actually about a group of 3 girls (early 20’s) when they decided to go on vacation to Paris together. The girls met a cute guy at a bar and he invited them to his house. One of the girls really wanted to go, because the man was super cute (apparently), but the other two were hesitant, due to the logical safety protocols of going to a stranger’s house. Regardless, the girls, after getting contact information, address and a calling schedule, let their friend go. In the end, the girl didn’t have the evening she wanted, except for a little kissing session. So… the girls went back to their lives. A month later, the girl called her friends to ask if they weren’t feeling well and had developed strange spots on their skin. Neither of the other two had any problems. The girl went to the hospital and was immediately questioned, even the local police showed up. It turned out that his skin infection was caused by a bacterial or fungal pathogen that only existed on the decomposing carcass. The interrogation led to an investigation into this guy he met in a bar in Paris. Police found 2 women buried in his garden…

Ok, enough about the talk shows I’ve been watching, and let’s talk about some of the shows I’ve been watching in recent weeks.

My sweet gangster

I started this on Viki because most of the episodes have aired, and it’s almost the end! Despite everything, I didn’t think I would binge all the episodes in 3 days and now I’m waiting for the last 6 episodes. When I first read the synopsis, it didn’t really intrigue me. The description on MDL is only a description of the 3 main characters. But once I started…I was hooked!

The plot is about Seo Ji Hwan, the sole heir of a powerful Korean mafia family, who took over the family “business” when his father went to prison. However, Ji Hwan, after stabilizing the gang and fighting with their “enemy”, disbanded the criminal activities and opened a meat products company staffed by ex-convicts. Ji Hwan spends so much time trying to build his business and take care of his own staff that he somehow misses out on his entire childhood and early childhood. And now, at the age of 36, he’s starting to notice “other” things.

Go Eun Ha, is a female content creator, for a company that creates content for children. She meets Ji Hwan. And this leads to a whole series of misunderstandings, which are eventually resolved. Then there is Prosecutor Jang, who has also taken a liking to our FL.

Ji Hwan doesn’t have a pretty boy look, but his face in this drama is pretty well sculpted.

Now, even though this series is technically a modern romance between a website designer and the son of a mob boss, the romance part feels like watching a high school drama. Notice I didn’t even mention a college romance. And since all these boys live together, even the house feels like a frat house, without the parties and the girls.

Yes, if you are going to watch this, prepare yourself for some very basic romance scenes because our ML has never had a girlfriend. (As if we could believe that in real life…) But it can happen. I started dating him when he was his age, but I wasn’t playing in the kids’ playground.

There is an overall plot of Ji Hwan trying to find his missing employee, the appearance of a new drug on the market, trying to keep his business afloat, and trying to avoid a certain woman who is chasing him. There are some pretty funny moments, even the fact that all of his senior staff all dress in black suits.

The show is pretty cute!

Haunted house for sale

This is a Taiwanese drama and the title isn’t quite right, at least not the English title. This drama tells the story of a real estate agent who has to deal with houses where violent deaths have occurred. On the one hand, it ensures that buyers know if a property has been the scene of a violent death and on the other hand, it helps sellers understand how to sell a property that has been the scene of a death violent.

She has a little assistant, who can “sense” spirits before “seeing” them. With this special skill, he can help her identify houses that have vengeful spirits. Just be prepared that this isn’t a comedy, although some of its “ghost” encounters are quite funny.

The FL, Lu An Chi, strives to make as much money as possible, as her mother has quite a large debt. His goal of making money landed him in trouble, fueled by a seller who lied in order to recoup the drop in the price of his house. Since it is a Taiwanese drama, there is only one episode per week. With the last episode I finished, as her career in the real estate industry is struggling due to the above problems, she comes across a group of people who call her for help in taking care of houses with a violent past.

The show is interesting even if it’s not exactly haunted houses. There is definitely a spiritual component to the plot. The show is interesting overall. And I’m curious to see where this will lead.

The royal princess

I only started this after seeing this on apps for a while. The reason I didn’t start was for a very stupid reason. I DON’T like the main poster for this drama (see above). I don’t know why, but everything about the image above bothers me. But when I finally started the show…everything is better than the picture above.

They look so good in the drama. Who the hell designed this poster!

The story is about the emperor’s older sister in episode 1, Li Rong and her ex-husband, Pei Wen Xuan. As the story begins, the couple has been married for 20 years, but completely separated for the past 15 years. Because of these years of animosity towards each other, they contributed to killing each other. When they die, they both wake up before they get married, a few weeks before their wedding is planned.

It took about two episodes for everyone to realize that they both have memories from the last 20 years. While at first they decided to team up to accomplish what each wanted in past lives, it doesn’t take long for their interactions to return to what their relationship was like when they first got married. times. They decided that neither wanted to relive their married life as it was and decided to just become each other’s best friends, since they know each other so well.

But it’s not only their relationship that has changed, but also those around them. We see the “truth” of what happened in their past lives and how each of their decisions affected the people around them. For example, we see Li Rong’s younger brother, Li Chuan, the crown prince and his love interest, Qin Zhen Zhen, and how he still fell in love with her despite meeting under different circumstances. We see that Li Rong’s misunderstanding regarding Pei Wen Xuan’s “love” for Qin Zhen Zhen (his ex-fiancée) was entirely due to speculation. She wanted to break off the engagement for years, but her family never let her, until her family found themselves in a dire situation. We also see that Shangguan Ya, who eventually became empress by marrying Li Chuan, had someone else she loved.

I really enjoy this drama. It’s no different from other rebirth stories, but the only thing that’s different is the main couple, after realizing each other’s situation, we see a couple who have spent more than half of their lives together, practically divorced, and are about to get back together. They used what they remembered to help them overcome obstacles and challenges that arose in their previous lives. The funny moments, so far, show how petty Pei Wen Xuan is whenever Su Rong Qing, the man his wife “fell” for in their past lives, is around. This husband certainly doesn’t hide his emotions every time Su Rong Qing revolves around his wife. (A brief note about Su Rong Qing, who lived with Li Rong longer than her own husband, in her first life. Su Rong Qing’s family was completely wiped out and she felt partly responsible. She begged the emperor to spare Su Rong Qing’s life, and was only allowed to live after he was castrated. Hence why he was allowed to live in his mansion for several years. )

The pace is good. I love all the stories and wonder what will happen to everyone, if they can somehow escape their tragic ends. I really, really like the main couple, because this is a love story not between young and innocent people, but between a couple who has already made all the mistakes. To like!

Ok…and that’s it for this week. I see it I lost you foreverseason 2 is out, but I need to remember what happened in season 1. So it might be a few weeks before I finally get to this one. I hope everyone finds something good to watch, and I will try to watch less addictive short dramas on YouTube. Have a good week!
