Anne: Happy New Year, theater lovers! These last few weeks have been crazy! And just in time for the end of 2025. The nine-year-old suffered from strange stomach problems that lasted for a good 4 weeks and the cause remains elusive. Once the symptoms were controlled with medication, we began taking detailed notes to determine what might be the dietary trigger. Well… nothing was really found because he’s suddenly, well now. So my most likely conclusion was a stomach virus that probably disrupted the intestinal flora, and it took a while before it finally returned to a good balance. So…sigh, at least no more vomiting at 2-4am. (Yes, I have superior hearing… and my husband never hears anything…)
A new year has begun and like everyone who has noticed in 2025, I have watched very little traditional drama series. Not much held my attention, or if it did, I’ll only watch a few episodes before losing interest. Despite this, I still hope that 2026 will be a better year…
Now…for a recap of my recent watched dramas and some of my 2025 favorites.
Taxi Driver (season 3)
I can’t believe this still isn’t finished! The slow delivery is killing me. And I even waited until the last week of 2025 to start watching, and there are still 4 unaired episodes of the full season.
Our favorite vigilante team is back! The stories this season are as entertaining as ever, even if the situations are as unbelievable as ever. (Do we really believe the car sales scam can work like it does?) The team got new toys and a new taxi…
I think this season, Kim Do Gi has evolved her character a little more towards the comedic side. From what I’ve watched so far, each story has a comedic element that takes center stage more than the other two previous seasons. Looking forward to finishing this in early 2026!
In the same spirit, I’m not finished yet Strange Tales from the Tang Dynastyor even to start Strange Chronicles of Tang. I liked the mystery solving aspect, but damn, the whole courtship thing was really getting to me. I’ll probably find some time to binge watch this just to finish it.
The inner truth
Yeah! (Finally, I have a Luo Yunxi drama that I can watch… The other one didn’t hold my interest. I really don’t understand these brotherhood/hero evolution stories… I never really liked that genre.) This just aired recently, starring one of my favorite actors, and it’s a mystery crime drama, a genre I’ve always loved. I didn’t get very far, but it looks like Dr. Qin, who will also star Luo Yunxi in the next one.
As I was looking at this title poster on MDL, I squint at the guy on the right, heading…where have I seen him before? Jiang Qi Lin… I looked through his works… and tada! He was the 3rd prince of Come on princess, come on…I could never tell what he looked like in the drama. For some reason, in this poster he looked somewhat like his 3rd Prince character.
I can’t wait to see where this goes.
The soul without clouds
This is another demon vs. human drama series, with a love/hate story that reminds me Ashes of love. This goes in the same direction as the The Demon Hunter’s Romancealthough I hope it has a better ending. (That’s the other reason why I didn’t watch Ren Jia Lun’s other drama this year…I really didn’t need the aggravation.)
The story begins with poor Bing Zhu, promoted after the execution of his superior by the emperor. He meets Xiao Yao, whose blood can attract demons. Using him as bait, she accidentally wakes up the Demon King.
Am I crazy or is this Demon Valley the same as the one that was in the The Demon Hunter’s Romance?
I’m not expecting anything deep, but I hope it will at least be entertaining.
Let me take a quick second to briefly talk about Glorya family and business empire run by women. In particular, the eldest daughter, Rong Shan Bao. Has anyone started this one? This looks quite interesting.
Some of my favorites from 2025
One of my favorites from this year was Prisoner of beautyI loved everything about this drama. It had a great plot, the ML and FL had great chemistry, there were complex relationships within the families…and honestly, what I really loved about it all was the romance. It was great!
In second place this year was Local newspaperbecause it’s a crime-solving period drama! The plot was a bit… too much… but at least it followed the plot to the end.
And to round up the top 3 of 2025,Desire ABObecause it was the first time a unique and distinctive world was created on screen. For BL dramas, it’s not the best (this spot still belongs to Word of honor), but it was different and quite spicy!
And this will close 2025 and early 2026.
