Anne: Hello theater lovers! I’m very late this week. Besides being very distracted by my short YouTube dramas, I also had to quickly watch and finish a long overdue drama, which will be expanded on later. Although, in hindsight, it’s a good thing I waited…
Alright, let’s get to the discussion!
History of Kunning Palace
Fucking moly! This thing fell without much noise. Yes, this one has been saying it’s “coming soon” for over a year! I thought this show would be classified, never to see the light of day. I started it as soon as I saw it appear on iQiyi. Everyone knows how much I love watching Bai Lu dramas. Oddly enough, my over-indulgence in YouTube dramas has made me aware of the major plot variations that have been created and remade.
The plot of this drama is simple. Bai Lu’s character is Jiang Xue Ning, who has been plotting her whole life to gain the position of empress, using the people around her. When the rebellion succeeded, she only had one regret, and that was how she framed and treated Zhang Zhe, the one person (according to episode 5) she believes to be the only good one. no one she had ever met. She faced her greatest enemy, Xie Wei, who she considers to be the biggest villain. She commits suicide to exchange Zhang Zhe’s life. As she dies, she is transported to an earlier part of her life. However, since we can’t do true rebirth stories, the story is framed as the author rewriting her work in any way she wants.
Transported to the age of 18, Jiang Xue Ning vows to change her destiny and avoid the tragedies that have occurred. Let’s see how much she is capable of changing. So far she is able to change small things, but she still ended up in the palace she is trying to avoid. It’s very good, so far. I like forward and backward storytelling, which gives the audience the past and the path they are trying to change. I LOVE this type of storytelling.
I just hope the ending isn’t a complete massacre.
Only for love

Now… as for the other Bai Lu drama that aired before the one above. And I really think the other one was released because of this one. Let me say this first, I like the one above better. Second, this is another one of those reused plots I’ve seen on YouTube.
In this modern drama, Bai Lu’s character is that of a financial journalist, Zheng Shu Yi. In her quest to get an interview with Shi Yan, the young CEO, she missed her boyfriend’s birthday celebration. When she comes back to pick him up, she surprises him with another girl, very rich and who can give him a hand in his career. Shu Yi discovers that the other girl has a rich and powerful uncle. And she comes to the inaccurate conclusion that this uncle is Shi Yan. So… as a “long term” revenge plan, she decides to get involved with the uncle so she can become the eldest in her double ex’s family.
I discussed “business” discussions…not interested. As a romance…Wang HeDi just can’t play the cold and indifferent CEO. Maybe I’ve seen it on too many variety shows. I just can’t see him as a man. He reminds me too much of my brother. So… I’m going to watch it anyway. Certainly with the FF button. But it’s cute, and let’s see how this story develops and when she finds out that the “uncle” she’s trying to seduce is someone else.
Destined for you

It took me a while to finish. I had to take a break from episode 8 because this thing was scaring me. I know it’s supposed to be a romance, and Rowoon is as hot as ever. But this whole spectacle, for some reason, gives me goosebumps. I don’t know if ML just had a bad look, a stalking attitude, or if all of this happened while he still had a girlfriend, or if the lighting was bad. But the romance made me uncomfortable. And making his girlfriend a bad person only made things worse! Because that means Jang Shin Yu stayed with someone so bad for TWO WHOLE years! WTF?! I had to FF the series just to find out the ending. Their tragic past lives, why he had no choice but to kill the person he loves most, and the role of everyone else in their lives…at least there was a happy ending.
Now…compare this with My pretty liarwhich I also took a break from and will finish soon, where the ML is a murder suspect, is still cute and didn’t freak me out.
I hope his new drama, The matchmakers, will be better. I hope…
And that’s it for the last two weeks! I hope everyone is having a good week. And my next new show to catch up on will be Wonderland of love. Maybe everyone is trying to get rid of their shows since this year is almost over?
